DETAILS AND EVENT MECHANICS OF FREEDOM CLIMB 2012

In the effort to make FC2012 very significant, here are the mechanics for the conduct of such:

A. Climb period is on June 9-12, 2012

B. Registration shall be in groups and is absolutely free AND must be done online thru: http://freedomclimb.fimoinc.org or http://www.freedomclimb.org

C. Participants are required to be in groups (minimum of 5) and must identify a particular mountain to be climbed. However, it is recommended that they climb mountains that are not usually frequented/visited so as to promote these as new climbing destinations (Mt. Irid, Mt. Batolusong and other mountains in the Sierra Madre mountain ranges are great examples) so as to give the more popular destinations a time to relax and regenerate. (Details on new destinations shall be provided by the Alliance and its affiliates, and other groups are also enjoined to do the same in sharing the necessary information).

D. Participants shall only be recognized to join after they have agreed and signed the Memorandum of Undertaking/Memorandum of Agreement/Memorandum of Cooperation which details the responsibilities, tasks and obligations of parties involved in the event. This MOU/MOA/MOC shall be considered binding specifically in the commitment of parties involved in the strict observance of the Leave No Trace Principles, proper conduct and decorum, among others.

E. Participating groups must submit to the Alliance a copy of their official itineraries in their respective destinations and the complete list of their participants.

F. Logistics like tarpaulins and other items shall be managed by participating groups themselves. A common template shall be issued by the Alliance bearing the official poster of the event and the logo of the said group and their climbing destination.

G. Souvenirs like shirts, ID's, button pins, ballers, bag tags, and neckwallets shall be OPTIONAL. Participants who wish to have these items may contact the Alliance's accredited supplier for the production of such items. It must be noted that the transaction for this particular provision is strictly between the supplier and the participants, and the Alliance shall bear no burden pertaining to issues which may arise in the process.

H. Registration period begins on May 5, 2012.

I. Deadline of registration: May 27, 2012.

J. Participants are required to attend the Pre-Event Activity on June 2-3, 2012. The venue shall be announced later. There will be multiple activities on these dates which include a Practical Mountaineering session, Tree-Planting Activities, and the formal Pre-Event Meeting/Send-Off.

K. Participants are enjoined to submit copies of their photos in the FC event proper for documentation purposes. A Post-Event Activity shall be announced later.

DISCLAIMER:

The Alliance of Filipino Mountaineers, Inc. (FIMO), being the actual product of the efforts exerted by tireless mountaineers who made the Freedom Climb franchise one of the most successful events in the history of the mountaineering community in the country, is again taking the lead in truly uniting Filipino climbers for a common cause.

FIMO is the sole organizer of Freedom Climb since 2010 and it is only righteous that it leads the same this year. All other FC-themed events are not in any way related to the Alliance.

The FC2012 event being organized by the Alliance is quite different from the previous FC's as this assumes that the mountaineering community has realized its actual strength and level of unity. Filipino climbers/mountaineers have exemplified a certain level of maturity and wisdom in confronting the issues which resulted from the shortcomings in the previous FC's. The Alliance is now more than aware of this fact. With due respect to the participants, the community has come a long way from its humble beginnings and shows no sign of slowing down.

It must be noted, however, that there is another Freedom Climb event which is being organized by another group. Let it be known that based on the above-stated facts that this FC is not in any way related to nor is the official event which the Alliance is organizing. For more information about FC2012, kindly get in touch with the officers of FIMO, or visit its official website: http://freedomclimb.fimoinc.org or http://www.freedomclimb.org

Thank you.
